If your car was made after 2016 and has features like lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, or automatic emergency braking, yes. The camera that powers those systems is mounted to your windshield, and replacing the glass throws off the calibration.
Without recalibration, your car might not brake when it should, or the lane-keeping assist could pull you in the wrong direction. It’s a safety issue, not a nice-to-have. Most manufacturers require recalibration after any windshield replacement on ADAS-equipped vehicles.

If the damage is smaller than a dollar bill and not directly in the driver’s line of sight, we can usually repair it. We inject a resin into the chip or crack, cure it with UV light, and polish it smooth. The repair takes about 30 minutes and stops the damage from spreading.
If the crack is longer than six inches, in the driver’s view, or at the edge of the glass, replacement is the safer option. Compromised windshields can fail in an accident or even from normal road vibration, and a repair won’t hold in those cases.

You can drive immediately after we finish, but we recommend waiting about an hour before highway speeds or rough roads. The adhesive we use sets quickly, but it reaches full strength over the next 24 hours.
For the first day, avoid car washes, don’t slam the doors hard, and try to keep the vehicle on smooth pavement when possible. After that, you’re good to go. The bond is permanent and the windshield will hold up to everything Long Island roads throw at it.
If it’s an emergency and you need to drive right away, let us know. We can adjust the process slightly to make sure it’s safe, though it’s always better to give the adhesive a little time to cure fully.
